Reading Program Information
The reading program was developed to give students the opportunity to read books for pleasure. Anyone can
check out books for two weeks or more. Many of the books have vocabulary sheets to help the reader understand the story.
There
are also audio CDs for some of the book series.
Periodically during the holidays (summer vacation, New Year's and spring break) the reading program is
offered
to the public for free. What can the reading program do for you?
-
Improve reading ability
-
Learn to enjoy reading books
-
Develop listening ability
-
Increase vocabulary
-
Practice your conversational ability
-
Improve your overall comprehension
Think about it, how many English books do you read taking English in a junior high or high school class? How many books do you read
as an adult in English? If you are like most people, you probably seldom read a foreign book.
| There are many reasons why people don't read books. Some of the reasons might be there is no time to read, the books are too difficult or the books are boring. What if the books were interesting and not too difficult? Would you find a little time to enjoy books? |
| That is our goal here at Sloan's English School. We try to find
interesting books suitable to your reading level, so you can
find the time to enjoy the world of English in story form. |
| In 2005, we made a video of the reading program. We asked one
student to participate with us. At the time he was in the 3rd
grade (elementary). His English in the video is not perfect and
sometimes he answers the question with the wrong answer, but that
is not a problem. We are working at communication in its many
forms. The little guy did a great job! Wouldn't it be great
to have more kids and adults reading books and having fun doing
it? Our hope is that students like him will be able to naturally
walk around in the world of English as an adult. |
